James Crawford AC, SC, FBA has been Whewell Professor of International Law, University of Cambridge since 1992; he has also held chairs at Adelaide, Sydney and La Trobe Universities in Australia. He was responsible for the ILC’s work on the International Criminal Court (1994) and for the second reading of the ILC Articles on State Responsibility (2001). In addition to scholarly work on statehood, investment law and international responsibility, he has appeared in some 100 cases before the International Court and other international tribunals. In 2012, he was awarded the Hudson Medal by the American Society of International Law. He has been elected as Judge of the International Court of Justice and started his term as of February 2015.
