The Closing Ceremony of the 2024 Summer Program
Dr. SU Yu, Deputy Secretary-General of the Administrative Council of Xiamen Academy of International Law, announced the beginning of the ceremony.
Prof. ZENG Huaqun, Co-President of Xiamen Academy of International Law, delivered an opening speech in which he congratulated the attendees on the success of the 2024 Summer Programme. He emphasized three suggestions from the opening ceremony: to concentrate on course studies, to promote professional links, and to make case studies on China. Firstly, he affirmed the achievements of all the students for addressing frontier issues and grasping key points of the subjects. Secondly, he was pleased to see the lively interaction between professors and participants. He mentioned two types of links in the class. The first one is the link between classmates, highlighted by the Night Party on July 18th, which convinced him that classmates had become a team and a community. The other one is the link among alumni of Xiamen Academy, which he hoped would further develop in the future. Thirdly, he noted that students visited the Maritime Silk-Road Central Legal District on July 11th and 17th, likely astonished by China’s efforts in promoting the rule of law in the international economic field, and learned something significant from these visits.
Prof. OWEN McIntyre, a professor at University College Cork, appreciated the tremendous hospitality of Academy and the student volunteers for their patience and hard work. He was particularly impressed by the Indian dancing, Lebanese dancing, Chinese Peking Opera, and Indian singing during the Night Party of the Summer Programme. He praised the participants, noting that they are not only academically advanced but also generally talented individuals.
Dr. ZHANG Xin, a partner at Global Law Office, warmly congratulated all the students who completed the course. He encouraged the students to maintain their interest in international law. He also thanked the organizers and was deeply touched by their support.
ZHANG Xidan, on behalf of the Chinese participants, thanked Xiamen Academy for offering an excellent learning platform. She sincerely thanked all the professors for their teachings, instructions, and insights. She mentioned that the 14-day course deepened their learning and enriched their lives. She also expressed her gratitude for the friendships formed during the Summer Programme.
Abdu Mohamedali Osman, on behalf of the foreign participants, expressed his heartfelt thanks to the professors for their enlightening lectures. He felt fortunate to participate in the program, which covered topics such as international cyberspace law, international investment law, and international water law. He was delighted to meet every participant and felt honored to be part of the program.
Certificates for participants and volunteers were awarded after the speeches. All attendees and volunteers received their certificates, while outstanding participants and volunteers received special honors from Prof. ZENG Huaqun and Dr. ZHANG Xin, respectively.
The closing ceremony of the 2024 Summer Programme of Xiamen Academy of International Law came to a successful end. However, the memories of this wonderful summer will endure. Let us look forward to our next meeting!
