Prof. Ulrich Schroeter


Ulrich Schroeter is Professor of Law at the University of Basel (Switzerland), where he currentlyserves as Dean of Research of the Faculty of Law. He has published extensively on matters ofinternational trade law, commercial law, contract law, treaty law, arbitration, European Union lawand financial markets regulation, and has received awards for both his research and his teaching. Much of his research deals with the 1980 United Nations Convention on Contracts for theInternational Sale of Goods (CISG) and other uniform commercial law-making conventions, where one area of his focus are treaty law and other public international questions relating to suchinstruments (reservations, effects of State successions, status of territorial units etc.). ProfessorSchroeter’s works have been cited by courts in Australia, Austria, Germany, the Netherlands, Slovenia, Switzerland and the United States of America, as well as by Advocates General at theEuropean Court of Justice. He is an elected member of the Council of the European Law Institute(ELI) and serves as national correspondent for Switzerland to the United Nations Commission onInternational Trade Law (UNCITRAL). Prior to taking up his position in Basel in 2017, Ulrichwas professor of law at the University of Mannheim (Germany) (2012–2017). He holds a Doctoriuris from the Freie Universität Berlin.
